7 Best Hotel & Hospitality Interior Design Firms in Jakarta

Posted on Jun 3, 2026

A hotel interior in Jakarta has to survive things a showroom never will. Housekeeping carts banging into corridor corners every day, 90% humidity creeping into anything made of timber, and guests who notice the second a reading lamp is in the wrong spot. The render looks perfect. Then the place opens and the operations team starts paying for decisions nobody pressure-tested.

So good hotel interior design in Jakarta is less about who makes the prettiest mood board and more about who understands how a hotel actually runs once the guests arrive. These seven firms do hospitality design in Jakarta worth taking seriously. Worth a conversation before you sign with anyone.

1. Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA)

HBA is the largest hospitality design firm in the world, founded in the US in 1965 and now run out of Singapore. Their Jakarta studio has grown to around 32 designers, so for a flagship five-star property they have the bench to deliver it.

The local portfolio speaks for itself: Raffles Jakarta and Fairmont Jakarta both went through HBA. The Raffles interiors built the whole scheme around the painter Hendra Gunawan, layering his colour against gold tones throughout the public spaces. This is the firm major international brands call when the budget is large and the standard is non-negotiable.

What to know

HBA is a design consultancy, not design-and-build, so construction runs through a separate contractor you appoint and manage. And they operate at the top of the market. For a boutique hotel or a mid-scale property, you may be paying for a level of process you don't need.

2. Metaphor Interior Architecture

Metaphor has been one of Jakarta's go-to names since 2003, led by James Wijaya with five associate design partners. Each partner runs a team of six, which gives the firm enough depth to handle hospitality, F&B, retail, and office work in parallel.

On the hotel side they've designed three-to-five-star properties across Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, and Bali, including concept work for Tribe Hotel. They've collected Asian Pacific Interior Design Awards and Singapore Interior Design Awards along the way, so the design credibility is real.

What to know

Like Metaphor's international peers, the firm is design-only. You'll need a contractor for the build, which means an extra interface to coordinate. Fine if you're comfortable running that yourself, worth flagging if you wanted a single point of accountability from concept through handover. If a one-firm setup matters to you, the difference between hiring separately and going design-and-build is worth understanding before you choose.

3. Interiologic

A modern upscale hotel lobby interior with a reception desk, warm wood and stone finishes, soft ambient lighting, lounge seating, and tall windows. Clean contemporary hospitality design.

Interiologic is the homegrown contender Jakarta hotel operators keep quietly putting on shortlists. A design-and-build firm with offices in Jakarta and Tangerang, it has clocked more than 700 completed projects, 30,000+ sqm delivered, and 150+ clients including BMW, Lexus, Changi Airport, and Diageo. Not the legacy hospitality nameplate yet, but the body of work is catching up. Their working philosophy, "Logic in Design," sounds like agency-speak until you watch what it means on a job. Every decision gets three checks: can it really be built, can the materials be sourced inside the budget, and does it work for the business?

That last question is where hospitality projects usually go wrong. A lobby that photographs beautifully but can't be cleaned without scaffolding is a failure. A bedside phone placed on the side furthest from the corridor wastes three meters of cable per room, and across 300 rooms that adds up fast. Interiologic thinks about this stuff during design, not after the contractor has already poured it.

Why the Indonesian challenger fits hotel work

Co-founder Norbert Vas spent 18+ years opening over 100 hotel projects with Archipelago International, so hospitality operations aren't a bolt-on here. Service flow, MEP coordination, maintenance access, the humidity question on every exterior material: all the unglamorous things design-only firms tend to skip. They also include procurement in the design phase, so you find out a material is over budget before it's specified, not after. It's why a younger Indonesian firm keeps turning up in conversations dominated by the global names.

What to know

They're selective. They describe themselves as a small team of elites and would rather turn down a job than agree to a timeline they can't hit. If you want fast and cheap above everything else, they'll tell you to look elsewhere. If you want a hotel that holds up operationally for years, and you're open to backing a local firm before the wider market notices, that's the point.

4. 1508 London

1508 is an international firm best known in Jakarta for the 25hours Hotel The Oddbird, the brand's first property in Asia. Working with Ennismore and Agung Sedayu Group, their Singapore studio delivered the guestrooms, the presidential suite, The Oddbird Bar, and the co-working space.

If you're building something bold and concept-led rather than classically luxurious, this is the kind of firm that can carry an eclectic brand identity through every room without it feeling like a theme park. The 25hours work is a good reference point for that.

What to know

They're an international design house, so expect international rates and a remote working relationship for much of the project. Construction is handled through local partners. Best suited to large, brand-driven developments where a distinct identity is the whole point.

5. Domisilium

A boutique hotel guestroom interior with a neatly made bed, bedside lamp and table, textured headboard wall, warm lighting, and a compact urban layout. Stylish small-hotel design.

Domisilium was founded in 2009 by Hamphrey Tedja and Santi Alaysius, both US-educated. The firm works across architecture and interiors with a leaning toward high-end residential and retail, and it has a real hospitality track record: Kosenda Hotel in Jakarta, Rooms Inc. in Semarang, and ARTOTEL Yogyakarta.

Their strength is boutique properties with a clear point of view. Kosenda in particular is the kind of compact urban hotel that needs personality to compete, and that's the lane Domisilium does well.

What to know

This is a studio that does its best work on design-forward boutique projects rather than large-format resorts. If you're opening a small hotel that lives on character and feel, they're a strong fit. For a 300-room operation, look at the bigger firms on this list.

6. PTI Architects

PTI Architects (PT. Prada Tata Internasional) is one of Indonesia's established practices, offering master planning, architecture, and interior design under one roof. That integrated setup matters for hospitality, where the building and the interior have to be coordinated from the start rather than stitched together later.

For a ground-up hotel where you want the architecture and the interior thinking aligned from day one, having both under the same firm removes a lot of the friction that shows up when separate teams hand off to each other.

What to know

PTI's centre of gravity is architecture and large-scale planning, so the interior offering sits inside a bigger practice rather than being the sole focus. Ask to see hospitality interiors specifically, at the scale and tier you're planning, before you short-list them.

7. BIKA Group

BIKA Group has been around since 1975 and runs an in-house contracting team that handles hospitality, apartment, and commercial projects in Indonesia and overseas. The longevity counts for something in this market, where plenty of firms don't outlast a single economic cycle.

Because they build as well as design, BIKA can take a hotel project from concept through construction without handing it to an outside contractor. For owners who want fewer parties to manage, that consolidation has real value.

What to know

BIKA covers a broad spread of project types rather than specialising purely in hospitality. As with any generalist firm, ask for hotel and hospitality references that match your scale, and confirm who'll actually be running your project day to day.
